Sharp Index 2021 Recap

In January, we presented the 2020 Sharp Index Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations doing great work with clinician burnout. The awards were presented virtually at the Physician Burnout Symposium, and you can view the winners in the pictures below. We are doing the awards again, with 2021 winners being announced at the Healthcare Burnout Symposium in January. We are accepting nominations and judge applications through the end of the year. Find more information at https://sharpindex.org/sharp-index-awards and nominate someone doing great work in addressing health care burnout.

Sharp Index Scholarships

In addition to awards, we give out scholarships annually. The scholarships are for students, interns, and residents studying medicine. These scholarships help non-traditional students become physicians, allow survivors who want to improve mental health and burnout, and fund students passionate about decreasing racism in medicine. Last year we were able to give out five scholarships. We would love to give out more this year. If you would like to donate or know someone that should apply, go to https://sharpindex.org/scholarships for more information.

YouTube Channel

Early in 2021 we started the Sharp Index YouTube channel. On the channel, Janae interviews health leaders and advocates to learn about their journeys in healthcare. The videos cover topics such as mental health and burnout for people in healthcare. Check out the interviews here and subscribe to our channel to see more awesome content in 2022!

Mothers in Medicine Fund

The Mothers in Medicine Fund was created within Sharp Index. The fund provides moms working on the front lines of healthcare with financial grants to help pay for childcare. Childcare is expensive, and it can be even more expensive for moms in healthcare that work long, nontypical hours. Additionally, many healthcare workers are leaving healthcare, whether that is to care for their children or escape a bad environment. These moms take care of everyone else. It’s our turn to take care of them. We are so excited to say that we have given out over 60 grants to moms this year. Thank you for your continued support of this fund!

#Turnout4Burnout

This year we are hosting the second annual Turnout4Burnout fun run. The race is virtual again this year, but that didn’t stop people from having a great time! Participants could choose between a 5K, 10K, hiking option, biking option, or kids run. The proceeds will be used to subsidize research and develop solutions for physician and nurse burnout, to support and heal our healthcare heroes.

Are you participating in the second annual #Turnout4Burnout? If you are, please share your pictures with us on social media! Tag us @sharpindex on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn with #Turnout4Burnout. We look forward to seeing your photos!

Physician EHR Toolkit

In November we launched our Physician EHR Toolkit. The toolkit provides resources for physicians to optimize their EHRs and advocate for better EHRs in the future. The toolkit was created by our intern for her MS Healthcare Administration capstone project and has nine categories of resources. The categories are General EHR Tips, Inbox Management, Apps and Software, Advocacy: First Steps, Data and Statistics for Advocacy, Advocacy: Share Your Voice, Advocacy Efforts, Educational Opportunities, and Mental Health Resources. We hope the toolkit can improve physicians EHR use and reduce stress and burnout.

HealthIMPACT Charity Partnership

This year, Sharp Index became an official HealthIMPACT charity partner. HealthIMPACT organizes conversations on how to leverage technology to build a better, stronger, and more equitable healthcare system.  We participated in their HealthIMPACT Live Fall Forum this fall, and we hope you will join us at one of their conferences in 2022!

Thank you for your continued support of Sharp Index! If you would like to donate before the end of the year, go to https://sharpindex.org/donate . We wish you a happy holidays and look forward to working with you all in the new year!
